As my first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament is just around the corner, I thought this might be as good a time as any to begin a BJJ blog. Never before had I thought I would start training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu much less LOVE it! I got started because my husband started training and finally talked me into starting kickboxing classes about a year and half ago. A deal was reached that I would “try” kickboxing for at least 2 months and then if it wasn’t for me, I could quit but I had to commit to 2 months.
At our gym, Pinnacle MMA, BJJ follows our kickboxing class and so I would often stay after while my husband trained. Soon I was intrigued, but I must admit I was also rather intimidated. I couldn’t fathom the idea of little me training with all these guys who were a lot bigger than me. Even still, I told myself I would try a couple of classes to see how it went. So I went to a few classes and…I WAS HOOKED!
I have been training BJJ since about January 2010. Back in November, I was awarded my first stripe on my white belt and recently, in March, was awarded my second. I must say it was an honor to be the first female my coach has promoted.
Truly on a whim, I decided to start this blog after seeing several other blogs of fellow ladies who train BJJ…I can’t say that I’ll be able to offer any words of wisdom, or that I know what I am talking about…this blog is simply intended to follow my personal journey and maybe even encourage other women to get involved because it is just so awesome!
Aside from BJJ
I am happily married and have been since 2009. I am a therapist at a local community non-profit mental health center and I love what I do. Aside from BJJ, my other hobbies include: anything artsy, music, reading, spending time with my wonderful husband, our various animal children,
family, and friends.
